About Dattatreya Marble Statue
Dattatreya is a unique God considered an incarnation of the Divine Trinity: Brahma, Vishnu, and Siva. “Datta” means “Given” because the divine trinity bestowed themselves as a son to the wise sage couple, Guru Atri and Mata Anusuya. He is known as “Atreya” because he is the son of Guru Atri.
In the Nath tradition, Dattatreya is considered a unique form or incarnation of Lord Shiva. He is also regarded as the very first teacher, known as the Adi-Guru, in the lineage of the Nathas. Initially, Dattatreya was recognized as a divine figure associated with yoga and had characteristics of Tantra. However, over time, he became integrated into more devotional practices. While millions of Hindus still worship him, people approach him more as a kind and compassionate God than a teacher of the most profound aspects of Indian philosophy.
